About the Potters

Emily DeFoor a.k.a. "The Pottery Lady"

Emily is orginally from Gainesville, GA. She discovered her love for pottery when she landed in a pottery class at North Georgia College taught by the late Bob Owens.  After one class she fell in love with working in clay.   Emily took several more pottery classes at North Georgia College as well as classes at The Quinlan Arts Center and The Penland School of Crafts.   In the Spring of 2003, Emily opened The Willows Pottery for Habersham Winery.  She is the retail manager and one of the house potters at The Willows. She lives in Sautee with her husband Nathan, Gracie the Pottery Kitty and their two Australian Shepherds, Roxie and Julie, who you sometimes have the pleasure of meeting while visiting the shop.

Betsy Ledbetter a.k.a. "Muddy Hands"

Betsy is orignally from Rock Hill, SC.  She attended The College of Charleston where she obtained degrees in Arts Management & Business.  While in Charleston, Betsy enrolled in a pottery class at The Gibbes Museum.  Longtime family friend, Mrs. Jessie Meaders encouraged Betsy to pursue her pottery making and gave use of her studio for practice.  She began working at The Willows in the Summer of 2003.  She lives in Sautee with her boyfriend Jesse and their Australian Blue Heeler Bonnie Blue who you may also have the pleasure of meeting while visiting the shop.  Bonnie Blue is the smartest dog in the world and she does the coolest tricks! (atleast her Auntie Em thinks so)
